Netbooks are meant to be used for word processing, browsing the internet and other light weight applications but that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun playing games with our netbooks right?
Don’t think of games like Crysis, Assassin’s Creed, Bioshock or any other new games obviously they won’t even make it pass the installation process. Those games need to be run on powerful machines that the netbook could only dream of having.
Think about old games around the 90’s and early 2000. There are loads of them that can run smoothly on the netbook. Don’t forget about flash games, there are a plethora of them on the net. Now who says that playing games on the netbook is ridiculous and impossible?
Here are some cool games from the 90’s:
-
1. Need for Speed 1
2. Need for Speed 2
3. Command and Conquer
4. Road Rash
These classic games can be purchased at your local game stores or if you cannot find it there try to search for it at ebay.
Here is a list of DOS games:
-
1. Duke Nukem 3D
2. Wolfenstein 3D
3. Pac-Man
4. Prince of Persia
5. Jazz Jackrabbit
6. Doom
7. Quake
8. Dangerous Dave
9. Commander Keen
10. Street Fighter II
Some of these DOS games are available for free as abandonewares. Take note before playing these DOS games that you will need a DOS emulator. DOS games do not run when you click the executable file because the DOS shell under Windows is not capable of handling them.
DOSBox is a DOS emulator that emulates the DOS environment with graphics and sound support. If you are not familiar with DOS commands you can use D-Fend Reloaded which is GUI front-end for DOSBox.
Here are some websites where you can get DOS games:
-
1. Abandonia
2. Abandonwaredos
3. abandonline
4. dosgamer
And here are few websites where you find flash games:
-
1. miniclip
2. popcap
3. flashgames247
The only thing that is a bugger here is that you need an Internet connection to play games from the websites mentioned above or do you?
Flash Saving Plugin is a tool that helps you download the flash game from the Internet Explorer browser (finally a use for the Internet Explorer) into your computer and after that you only have to drag the flash file game into your browser to play it offline.
There you have it, games that you can enjoy playing on your netbooks. For those of you who had been playing some of the old games listed above, have an enjoyable time going through it again while reminiscing the good old times.
