Microsoft is currently working on Internet Explorer 9. With lots of interesting features this could be Microsoft’s answer to challenge the increasingly popular Mozilla Firefox browser, Opera, Chrome and Safari. Its been some years since I really used Internet Explorer (IE) to surf the big web due to its slow loading time and absurd display of web pages but time to time again I open it up to see if my pages display correctly on IE. IE7 and IE8 just did not manage to cut it for me. Maybe it was caused by the stigma IE6 that has been implanted in my brain. If you would like take IE9 for a test drive you can do it at the Internet Explorer website. Its not even in beta version yet so don’t expect too much but you still can test some of the features that IE9 has to offer.
Internet Explorer 9 Features
Why does this matter? Because HTML5 will be the next generation of HTML code to run on the web, that’s all. If IE9 fails to deliver in this aspect they can forget about world domination.
- Chakra:
Chakra is basically a fancy name for their new JavaScript engine. JavaScript apps is what make us spend countless hours on the net and it is also one of the best ways to test a browser’s speed ability by testing how fast the JavaScript engine renders the JavaScript.
Chakra runs the JavaScript code on a separate CPU core that is parallel to the IE9 browser thus greatly reducing the time for JavaScript to render. A good use for our multiple core processors I say.
- DirectX Video Acceleration:
Microsoft is really heating things with integrating IE9 and DirectX together. The DirectX video acceleration will work with Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), CSS3 and text rendering.
With Microsoft utilizing DirectX video acceleration in IE9 it is supposed to reduced the the burden of your CPU thus giving it more power to do other tasks.
IE9 was tested by playing by two 720p HD videos simultaneously and it showed very promising results, faster then any other browser. Maybe with IE9, playing HD movies on the net might become a regular activity for surfers in the near future.
I hope that IE9 will revolutionize the way we see and use the web and on paper IE9 seems capable of doing just that but as we all know Microsoft’s Internet Explorer just manages to find a way to disappoint us all. All we can do now is wait and see.

I think IE still has a very good chance at getting popular again. Granted if they make it safe and secure. That is what got them in the hot water from the get go. Though, Firefox has been more advance than IE during the last few years. I think that if any browser is the least advance, that would be Chrome.
